Loving myself. But what does loving oneself feel like or really mean?
Self love means having high regard of one's own well-being and happiness but it may also mean enjoying a cup of coffee while reading your preferred book, having a cheat day by ordering  your favourite pizza, binge watching the new thriller show you discovered on Netflix, going shopping and finding clothes that you like or  taking a day off just to sleep for some extra hours.

But does self love only mean pampering yourself? No.

Self love is waking up and being able to look in the mirror and not criticizing yourself, loving yourself means being happy and contented with where you are in life, it is accepting your flaws and living with it, it means being okay with your flawed skin and frizzy hair or your imperfectly perfect body, it means taking care of your own needs and putting yourself first sometimes, it means being able to say "no" when it's necessary to. Loving yourself means letting go of the things that are not meant for you because growth starts when you finally let go.

Self-love is important because it is the root of all love. One can never fully love others if they do not love themselves. When you really "love" yourself, you refrain from doing whatever that comes in path of you and your happiness,it motivates you to make healthy choices in life. True happiness comes from within and once we stop comparing ourselves with the pretty girls we see on social media and are able to accept ourselves for who we are   that will be our greatest accomplishment. But one should not confuse self love with narcissism or self-obsession, self love unlike self obsession does not mean that you value someone less than yourself it simply means to value yourself as much as you value others and believe that you are worthy of love, respect and happiness and deserve to be treated with respect and cherished by people.

        Few Benefits of self love

  1.  Rejection is not as meaningful because when you love yourself you recognize rejection as redirection.
  2. You become conscious of the things you spend your time on, your priorities change to be in line with what's more important to you.
  3. Others' opinions hold less value. Doesn't mean what people will think about you will become insignificant to you but the value you place on them will decrease.
  4.  You will be less critical of others. You will be less judgemental, this is because you have identified your values  and you realise that your values and others' values aren't equal.

Learning to love yourself also reduces stress, lessens procastination and makes you more focused at work. People who love themselves are less likely to suffer from anxiety or depression, it also paves the way for positive mindset. Loving yourself can encourage a person to pick up good habits. Self love means loving your body, mind and soul. Therefore people who love themselves are the happiest.

     Ways to cultivate self-love

  1. Recognize that no two people exactly alike. Even though genetics may predispose us to certain things, each individual has their own set of fingerprints by which they are known. Even identical twins who may look alike and sometimes act alike do not share fingerprints. This means you are truly and completely unique. That fact alone is a startling spiritual truth when you take a moment to digest it.
  2. Realize that each person does what they are capable of in their own evolution and journey. Beating yourself up because you did or didn’t do something is useless. Most people overcome obstacles, and in doing so make a ton of mistakes along the way. It’s why people value age, because of the learning experiences. Instead of beating yourself up, embrace your journey and know that you are learning at each and every moment given to you.
  3. Respect that each moment is a gift. Everyone knows someone who got a life-changing diagnosis or news that changed their view on what is important. Self-care is important. Don’t wait to apply it. Yes, there is plenty to do and worry about, and in the midst of it all, each moment gives you a chance to just stop and realize your own significance in the universe.
  4. Remember that no one is perfect. Say that again—no one is perfect. Everyone has strengths and areas of opportunity. Don’t sell yourself short or compare yourself to others. It’s a losing proposition—there is always someone who would take your place in a minute, given their circumstances. Own what’s positive about you and enjoy those things.
  5. Practice loving self talk. Sometimes the things we say to ourselves are the most awful, demeaning things anyone could ever say. Instead of drilling into yourself how terrible you are or using self-defeating language, reframe —and use language that builds you up, not tears you down.
